2017.12.1, the 30th World AIDS Day, our school and the Sex Science Association held a lecture on AIDS prevention and control. Lianguo Ruan, the director of AIDS Department of Wuhan Medical Treatment Center, explained why college students need to prevent AIDS. Zhenye Zhang, the president and Ke Gui, the vice-president of Central China Normal University Hospital, and Shouxin Xia, the Deputy Secretary of CCNU Journalism and Communication Department Party Committee, and doctors from Public Health Department of CCNU Hospital attended the lecture.
Director Ruan said, " AIDS prevention and control" lecture going into university is essential. Now, the university has become AIDS "severely-stricken area" ("severely" does not mean a high morbidity rate, but refers to the high growth rate), college students infected with HIV is increasing year by year. Only in the last year, there were more than 100 newly-found college student infectors in Wuhan, of whom male infectors reached more than 60%. It is particularly important for college students to recognize and prevent AIDS precisely.
In the three kinds –mother-to-child, blood contact, sexual contact--of AIDS transmission routes, sexual contact is the primary transmission route of AIDS in China. A survey showed that more than half of college students do not mind premarital sex, more than 70% of college students mind their partner lost chastity. Director Ruan said, most college students got infected because of lack of safety awareness. College students falling in love is normal, but should hold yourself, love yourself, take safety measures, keep safe sex idea in mind, and do not lose your chastity to others easily in the circumstances not knowing the other well. In addition, Director Ruan reminded students that try not to get ears pierced or do tattoos at stalls, to ensure that needles are disposable needles to avoid blood transmission.
In the lecture, Director Ruan popularized the relevant knowledge of AIDS and explained questions why morbidity rate of gay is high. In response to the topic of gay, Ruan said that homosexuality is a normal sexual preference, related to genes and family environment. Homosexuality, though contrary to the evolutionary choice of human multiplication, in conformity with Darwin's theory of survival of the fittest. We should treat homosexuality correctly. And the high morbidity rate of gay is determined by both physical and psychological factors.
Director Ruan led an experiment once, in which a student stood in the street, hanging a sign written "I am an AIDS patient, are you willing to give me a hug?" Within 3 hours of experiment, nobody came. The moment the student was to leave, a pedestrian suddenly came to hug the student, and whispered, "Are you really an AIDS patient?" The student replied in a daze, "No." But the pedestrian said with regret," But ... I am.” Hearing this, the student became pale and took off his clothes and ran away.
Director Ruan said that in everyone's opinion, there are three ways of the transmission routes of AIDS, but in his view, there is a forth way of transmission, "discrimination." The discrimination against AIDS patients may be derived from people’s instinct to protect themselves, but if we really understand the relevant knowledge of AIDS, we will be less fear. He revealed that once a patient diagnosed with AIDS disappeared with despair. With the cooperation of the police, the hospital took two months to find the patient and carried out psychological treatment. The quality of patients’ lives decline seriously due to the social misunderstanding of AIDS and people's strange vision of AIDS. Under great pressure, AIDS patients are very easy to go to extremes. In the treatment of AIDS patients, their psychological trauma should be treated as well.
China has taken out the Chinese solution for AIDS prevention and control. Although AIDS is still unable to cure, as long as patients drink the blocking medcine on time, survival rate is still high. With correct treatment the patients’ life can be extended forty or fifty years, which means living for seventy or eighty years is possible. In the past five years, no cases of mother-to-child transmission of HIV have occurred in Wuhan. China's blood detection is also constantly improving, therefore the rate of infecting AIDS through transfusion has reduced greatly. And the state gives free treatmentmedcine to the patients with the greatest care.
Director Ruan said, college students should understand AIDS correctly, and should not discriminate AIDS patients. As long as everyone keep “safe” in mind all the time, love ourselves, we can stay away from AIDS.
